The Economist says Violence and Abuse against Women and Girls has reached epidemic proportions in South Africa. Some studies show that up to 70 per cent of women and girls have experienced physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime including Rape. Stats SA reported that the murder rate for women increased drastically by 117% between 2015 and 20117. Yet very little is done by way of programs to educate men and boys that Violence and Abuse against Women and Girls is WRONG !
Using the very successful methods of the White Ribbon Campaigns around the world by providing workshops and classes in workplaces, schools, sports, clubs, trade unions and local communities to develop a better understanding about the root causes of violence and ways to prevent it. Building a network of ambassadors and advocates to challenge male violence and abuse against women and girls, intervening when violence and abuse occurs, and being positive role models to other men and boys
Through education, awareness-raising, outreach, technical assistance, capacity building, and partnerships, using the White Ribbon's programmes will challenge the negative, outdated concepts of manhood and inspire South African men to understand and embrace the incredible potential they have to be a part of positive change.
