The Maasai community land is characterized by very hot weather condition. It is difficult to do farming in this region while it is classified as an arid area. The community keeps cattle as a way of livelihood.Women walk for over 10Kilometers in search for pasture and water . The girls are thirsty for education. They walk for long distance since the schools are very far from the homesteds.I met this girl Kalekye (name changed) who told me that she has been walking for 7 Kilometers everyday to school and back home .She skips lunch because lunch is not offered in school.Sometime she will go home and find the only meal in the house is a glass of milk .This is a typical story of many other children and girls from this community. The weather has not been any kind to this community and so they have to move from one place to another looking for pasture and water. In some cases the children are malnorished due to lack of a balanced diet. This girl Kalekye and many more have said they will beat all odds and finish schooling.
Your support to such girls has always made it possible for them to continue schooling.Let us continue to support them in all ways so that they can finish their education despite the challenge.
Your questions ,comments and input are always welcome.Engage us on info@hopeforteenagemothers.org
