Alimlim is her real name.She joined Hope for Teenage Mothers project in 2011.Alimlim was a shy girl who only knew how to look after cattle and goats from her village in Oloitotok a place located in the boader of Kenya and Tanzania.She did not know how to read and write.She had low self esteem and no communication skills
A mother of 4 children, who gave birth to her first child at the age of 13 years due to her cultural background.Her community marries girls at the age of 7 years.
Hope for Teenage Mothers enroled Alimlim to a non- formal education class to be taught how to read and write.Her 4 children were put in an orphange after our successful search for a favourable one. Dedicated to educating them ,the arragement was to seeing them during the schools holidays.
After sucessful completion of reading and writing Alimlim was enroled in a dress making class that also offers communication skills and financial literacy .
Alimlim is now a pround mother and says ,"Thank you to all who have supported me to be whom I am today.I can now afford to pay school fees and feed my children''.
Alimlim is a mentor to other teenage mothers within her community and encourages teenage girls to go to school .She has bought two tailoring machines to advance her business of dress making.
