Our program for teenage mothers at the Mukuru slums revolves around mothers of children attending the Reuben Centre vocational training and their children attending the Daycare and Primary school. At the Vocational training they are trained in sewing, cooking, weaving, gardening, baby care, beadworks as skills for development and empower them for future. These girls benefit from mentors and volunteers who work very hard to impact and bring them a social and economic empowerment. The volunteers take them through an entrepreneurial level in their chosen livelihood after they finish their course work.

The organization encourages informal group works and discussions that give them a forum to speak up and raise issues that concerns them in day today life. Some of the areas of discussions are person hygiene, conflict management, co existence with neighbours and other people, business start- ups , marketing skills and   financial management. The aim of this type of skill is to help the girls acquire knowledge that would help them respond to various situations that they may face . Feedback from our social workers is that this forum has helped even others who are not within the group through sharing knowledge.

This year we focus on marketing their hand weaved items that they have made so that this will go to supporting them and their children. These girls keep increasing their skills of the designs and patterns. I must say their  skills are very completive in the market..

Thank you for supporting them through out 2017.We lookforward to a more exciting 2018.
