Let us support girls in Kenya to go to school

Sally is a 3 year old and needs to go to school
Teenage pregnancy has become an epidemic phenomenon with the recent statistics showing that Kenya has the highest levels of teenage pregnancies of 3 in every 10 girls between the ages of 13 years to 18years. The girls are found in the upper primary and secondary school. After giving birth, these girls become butts of distasteful jokes and these results to stigmatization and as already observed, majority of these girls have their education terminated. The increase of school teenage drop outs also contributes to poverty, insecurity, early parenthoods and early marriages just to mention a few. It is for these reasons that Hope for teenage mothers (HTM) came up with programs to address some of their needs in the community that includes empowerment through sustainable relevant skills and back to school programs. Our main focus is stigma removal and restoration of the lost hope and self esteem to the young mothers so that they can have a normal life again. To date HTM has changed the lives of over 600 families through your kind support. The months of November and December 2012 in HTM’s Calendar is for fundraising to build a Multipurpose boarding school for the most Vulnerable girls that would accommodate 300 to 500 girls. The school will help those very poor girls from poor communities and enable them access education. Thank you for your kind support to this project. How can we work together to attract a wider support?

Teen mums in Kenya continue to thrive
By Lucy Ndungu | Project Coordinator
We thank you for your great and continuous support you have given to our project for the Hope for Teenage Mothers (HTM) .The teenage mothers have continued to thrive in their small businesses because of your kind support. We shall tell you a story of one of our teenage mums who graduated last year December from dress making class.
Alimlim,
‘ I came to Hope for Teenage Mothers without knowing how to read or write after staying in the slums for many years. I gave birth to my first baby at age 13 years. I am now a mother of 3 children. Hope for Teenage Mothers helped me by giving me a teacher phillip who helped me to read and write.I know how to read write and count even money. After, I knew how to read and write the organization helped me also to learn dress making and I now make very beautiful clothes for my customers . The organization has helped me start a small business for making clothes and I can say that despite the challenges of not having enough stock to meet my customers’ demand, I am able to put food on the table for my 3 children and sometimes I even give my neighbours when they do not have anything to eat. Thank you for all you have been doing to help me and my children’.
Thank you for your continued support to Hope for teenage Mothers project for women empowerment We always appreciate your feedback on how we can work together to attract a wider support for this project. All your feedback can be sent through our email on ; info@hopeforteenagemothers.org
