The conditions of women who suddenly became widows as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency is deplorable and begs for urgent actions. Since women in the northern part of Nigeria marry early, on the average the women have six children whom they are unable to cater for, this owing to the social structure that restricts women economic activities. This extreme poverty is a time bomb waiting to explode, if nothing is done urgently. we propose economic empowerment through education and soft loans
The Boko Haram Insurgency is being scuttled by the government of President Buhari Administration, but consequences of the over 7 years internal war leaves behind the maimed, the bereaved, those who have lost the means of livelihood, the sick, several widows, orphans and extreme poverty. Over 1000 women have lost their husbands and breadwinners, and invariably about 20,000 children are orphaned by the insurgency. The weight of this deplorable social economic conditions is burn by women.
This project will train 100 women in vocational and business modules. The programme will offer them material incentives to encourage them to adopt some of the children orphaned by the insurgence. They will be offered revolving small loans to inject into their chosen line of trade. On return of the loans other batch of women will be brought into the net. The children will be place back in schools or make shift schools as the need demands.
The problem of prostitution of women and girls will reduce because the will be financially empowered. The problem of children wasting away and posing potential danger for society (almanjeri) street children will drastically reduce as children will be occupied both in madrasa and conventional schools. Crime will reduce, hunger will reduce.
