EARN in partnership with GlobalGiving to raise funds to train 50 Omoku unemployed youths in Nigeria Niger Delta on oil spill clean up,farming and fishing for their livelihoods which have been destroyed by oil pollution.129 million Nigerians are poor and hungry. and the traing of youths who are currently restive and violent Will help give them skills and employent The solution to youth criminality and oil theft is altetnative means of livelihoods which the training will ptovide .0
129 million out of 234 million Nigerians poor and hungry particularly those living in oil producing areas of Niger Delta region who have lost their means of livilihoods due to oil pollution .Omoku community has 207 oil wels out 416 oil wells in Rivers state .Omoku youths are unemployed , restive and vulnerable to criminality and oil thft and illegal refineries activites which have exacerbated climate change and warming in the region The youths lack skills to build their capacity .
This project will train 50 Omoku youths on farming,fishing and acquire Oil spill clean up skills to build capacity and resilience in them. The project is community-led and will alleviate hunger and povetty and improve social and econmic wellbeing of the trainees The project will equip the trainees with better life skills to become more responsible citizens
The long term benefits are that the youths will become emplyable and less attractive to oil theft and vandalism .Climate action will begin to take place by decarbonizing the region and stopping illegal burning of crude oil that is causing cancer and other Petroleum related diseases. Environmental restoration and climate justice will be achieved .
