1. Project Overview
Millions of Nigerian youths are eager to learn but face barriers due to unemployment, digital exclusion, and limited mentorship. Empower Future Initiative (EFI) has partnered with Coursera for Social Impact to address this gap by providing online learning scholarships coupled with mentorship and data support.
Our goal is to empower learners with skills in web development, data analytics, digital marketing, GenAI, and entrepreneurship, enabling them to secure meaningful employment or start their own ventures.
2. Progress Update
We are excited to report early achievements:
Learners Enrolled: 248 of 500 targeted youths have been successfully enrolled.
Data Grants: Each learner in the cohort receives 2GB of weekend data to access course content.
Mentorship: Monthly group and one-on-one mentorship sessions have begun, focusing on course navigation, goal setting, and career guidance.
Course Completion: Early engagement metrics show 85% of learners have started their courses, and many are completing weekly assignments on time.
3. Success Stories
Ada, 19, from Enugu: Started her digital marketing course and has already created a professional portfolio website using the skills learned.
Chinedu, 22, from Lagos: Completed his first module in web development and has been offered an internship by a local tech startup.
These early successes demonstrate the potential impact of bridging the digital divide for underserved youths.
4. Challenges
Internet Connectivity: Some learners face intermittent network issues in rural areas. We are exploring partnerships with local internet providers to improve access.
Course Pace: A few learners require additional guidance to keep up with course timelines; mentors are providing personalized support.
5. Next Steps
Enrollment: Complete enrollment of the remaining 252 learners for full project participation.
Mentorship Expansion: Increase frequency of mentorship sessions and introduce peer-to-peer learning groups.
Tracking Progress: Implement a digital dashboard to monitor course progress, assignment completion, and skill acquisition.
Impact Measurement: Begin compiling early outcomes on employability, freelancing projects, and entrepreneurship initiatives among learners.
6. Call to Action
Thanks to our donors, EFI is already making a tangible difference in the lives of hundreds of Nigerian youths. Continued support will help us reach all 500 learners and ensure they gain the skills needed for sustainable livelihoods.
