Challenge

Despite steps taken to achieve UN Millenium Development Goals, Ghana is suffering badly from extreme poverty. It is the marginalised that often feel the full burden of poverty and in most cases can't break the cycle of poverty they and their families find themselves in. Women and PLWHA are often denied access to small loans which is often the difference, between spending a life in poverty or building a sustainable source of income and gaining independence and success for them and their families.

Solution

This project will offer PLWHA and women access to small loans ranging form 100 to 500 GhC. After assessing a business plan and discussing options, each participant will be given business skills training in order to maximize success and build capacity. The loans will be granted on an individual basis. Further support will be provided as and when needed. The interest made from initial loan repayments will go back into the fund to provide more loan opportunities for more women and PLWHA.

Long-Term Impact

The long- term impact of this project will see many families being lifted out of poverty while the mothers can leave behind a legacy for their children to continue. When using groups to guarantor the loans the entire community will have a vested interest in the success of the direct beneficiaries, therefore, community spirit will be enhanced. By using interest from previous loans we can ensure a continuation of the fund thus providing more loans to more and more people.
