Empowering the needy project by Shona Sisters has been working with vulnerable members (very needy orphans, very needy widows and very needy HIV infected) in the community giving them livelihood support skills and educational support to the school going children. The project area of operation is a poor community setup and to help alleviate the situation we help in a small way those who are very very vulnerable though we can do more but lack of funds limits the project effectiveness.
Poverty is the main challenge in the community. Majority of the community members were affected by Post Election Violence that erupted in Kenya in 2007 and they were deprived of livelihood and dignity that befits a human being. This is aggravated more so to those who are widowed, orphaned and Living with HIV. Poverty being lack of alternative is deprives the children their childhood, education and self esteem and in the end they get entangled in other vices that leads to HIV and more poverty.
With provision of basic needs and educational support to the children they will acquire education that will help them get training in colleges and as such get employed and improve their livelihood sustainably. With Training support and provision of tailoring equipment and tools to the vulnerable women they will get empowered economically and in the end will help their families and the community at large.
We will provide technical skills and support to 100 widowed and needy women. We will educate and support 50 needy school going children to help them acquire wings to fly.
