There is need for increasing access, retention and quality education for girls in primary and secondary schools in rural, ghetto areas surrounding Wakiso district. This can be reached through providing scholastic materials, provision of reusable sanitary pads, changing rooms and Establishing child-friendly environment to help make school attractive place for children to increase enrollment, retention and quality Education for Girls.
Girls' access to basic education especially in rural, Ghetto areas in Wakiso district has remained low due to poverty, economic issues, early marriage, teenage pregnancy, inadequate school infrastructure, cultural & religious misinterpretation are the main issues that prevent girls from going to school. Most schools are not friendly for girls and a lot of girls drop out before reaching class six. Many parents, especially in large families with limited resources.
The main goal of this project is to eliminate gender inequality in primary and secondary education. The project will achieve this through improving the quality of life of girls in Rural, Ghetto surrounding areas by a collaborative approach to girls' education by provision of scholastic materials and reusable sanitary pads, provide games and sports kits to help improve the learning environment, & increase public campaigns aimed at parents and community leaders to help get more girls in school.
Girls' education not only brings immediate benefit of empowering girls but is seen as the best investment in development. Educated girls develop essential life skills that helps them participate well in the society, protect themselves from HIV/AIDS, sexual exploitation, cutting children & maternal mortality rates &, contributing to national wealth. Children of educated women are more likely to go to school & this has positive effects on education & poverty reduction for generations to come.
