The Turin Institute for the Deaf in Italy & World Action Fund in Uganda want to provide a rehabilitation, integrated Education and social insertion of deaf and blind persons in Uganda among : Developing the Child's level of functioning cognitive, speech and language, psychological, motor and self-help skills Training the mothers/families on how to communicate and support their children for a social inclusion. Vocational training, Managing the transition from school to the job world.
The rural areas of Arua district are so remote that the chances of rehabilitation of the disabled children are grim. Though the literacy rate is high the disabled rehabilitation is still at it's infancy. People have no idea on what kind of intervention can be given to such group of children. Even how the deaf/blind/multiple disabilities, children continue to have a difficult access to education because parents or school administrators don't know how to managed their educational needs.
Educational services supporting mainstream schools where student with disability are enrolled. Making recommendations for designing the school program adaptations for these children and manages training for teachers. Training parents and family's on how to communicate and educate their children. Develop a cadre of trained persons to identify and develop functional curriculum skills for children living with disabilities.
We will train the children and their families to give them the possibility to communicate and to be more self reliant. We will create a community of trained local organisations working in education and integration of children with disabilities. This community will regularly review each child taking part in this project to ensure that she/he is receiving appropriate care and education and also support the family during all the processes of social integration of their children.
