This project will empower 100 drop-out teen moms, single mothers and victims of GBV with soft skills in sewing, knitting, tailoring, handmade jewelry, fashion and designing, computer literacy and basic financial management alongside building their self-esteem through counselling, education and awareness. Additionally, the project will benefit 200 vulnerable children and 30 child-headed households in the community through free repairs of their clothes and donations.
Currently, "47% of pupils quit school by grade 10," for several socio-economic reasons such as teenage pregnancy. For all these 47/100 without a decent education their prospects of finding a decent job are bleak. The 'live birth' records report released by statistics SA in 2014 demonstrates that 64% of households are run by single mothers. Single mothers have the stress of raising children alone accompanied by financial stress. In SA, 70% of women have experienced physical or sexual abuse.
Sensitization: Identification of unemployed and unskilled single mothers, school drop-out teenage mothers and victims of GBV, conducting counseling & motivational sessions, meetings with families and guardians. Skilling: Training in sowing, knitting, tailoring, Jewelry and fashion designing, basic business and financial management. Jobs Creation: Retain some of the trainees at the Center for employment in making uniforms for sale and training new recruits. Making donations & free repairs
Uplifting the self-esteem and dignity of 100 women through counselling, education and awareness about GBV, HIV/STIs, SRH rights and services, children rights and parenting skills. 100 women imparted with lifelong soft and financial management skills will positively impact on their families and communities. These in turn are tasked to train at-least 2 other interested women. Donations and Free repairs to clothes of 200 orphaned children and 30 child headed households.
