Empower teen moms to be self reliant in Malawi

This project intends to rescue 30 teenage and young mothers from deep poverty and poor living conditions they're in. The project will train the young mothers in income generating skills, that is tailoring, hairdressing and cooking and baking skills and provide start up resources. At present, 80% of the mothers are school drop outs and do not have any money making skills and they just rely on their parents and fathers of their children which is against their background.

Young mothers from poor resource households are living on a less than $1 each day and they cannot afford to access basic needs for themselves and their children and families. About 80% of them are school drop outs and they do not have entrepreneurship skills and resources to enable them generate money for their well-being. Instead they rely on their parents, fathers of their children and older men to support them financially which puts them at risk of abuses, torture and exploitation.

Through training the young mothers in income generating skills, such as tailoring, hairdressing and baking of pastries for business, will enable them generate money on their own and be economically independent. We will also provide training in finance literacy and basic business management courses.

Long-Term Impact

In the long run ,we will achieve our vision of young mothers living independent, self sufficient lives. This is where by they will be improved household economy , improved health and wellness of themselves and their children, increased self reliance and restored dignity and respect.
