This project will provide hair dressing, knitting and food preparation skill training to women in Southern Ethiopia who are resource poor and who are striving to be self-sufficient. The women choose a training course according to their interests and upon graduation they are made to be organized in self-help groups and linked with micro-finance to start their own business.
In Southern Ethiopia, a number of women and girls in rural parts got affected by sociocultural factors and become economically dependent. They shoulder heavy household chores and struggle to provide food, clothing, medication and school fees for their families. Some of them even fail to bear the conditions and fled to urban areas to join sex industry. Hence, this project supports 100 disadvantaged women and girls to learn new skills and establish businesses that lead them to self-sufficiency.
The project helps the selected disadvantaged women and girls to have access to skills training and business management approaches to expand their income generating potential. After graduation, the trainees will be made to form self-help groups and linked with micro-finance to get loan and to start a small business. As a result, these women and girls will become empowered and are able to provide the basic needs for themselves and their families.
The project will provide skill training for 100 women and girls allowing them to rise out of poverty and to make them active participant in development of the country.
