Follow-up with our beneficiaries is of tremendous importance to our Doorsteps team.
No only do we provide capacity building and training to the organization leaders participating in our Doorsteps and Chab Dai Charter program, but each relationship is always followed by one-on-one mentoring with all those who participate. During the first half of 2015, for example, the Doorsteps project team provided follow-up and mentoring with19 grassroots and organization leaders who had previously participating in the project cycle management training, representing eight organizations from the current and previous years.
As part of our follow-up, and in collabortion with Chab Dai's Learning Community leadership (another one of our direct projects working with counter-trafficking coalition members across Cambodia), the Doorsteps team conducted and facilitated a provincial member meeting in Siem Reap on March 19. The team arrived a few days early in Siem Reap to spend one-on-one time with current and previous Doorsteps participants, providing mentoring, encouragement and visiting projects where possible.
During one follow-up visit with the local director of a Doorsteps participant focused on assisting local Cambodian boys overcome drug addictions, the Doorsteps team worked with the organization's staff to assess how they internally monitor and evaluate the progress of their clients. Through this process, the staff developed their own, personalized and organization-specific monitoring mechanism and thus increased their capacity for evaluating their project and ensuring the boys they work with receive quality care and assistance. The participant has shared that as a direct result of increasing their capacity for monitoring and evaluation, they incorporated this into a proposal and received a new, much-needed grant for a new donor.
