In the largest slum in Africa called Kibera, near Nairobi, Kenya, live approximately over half a million people. They are living without access to clean water, sewer system, electricity, or infrastructure. It is unsafe at night with no lights, girls are sexually assaulted and battered. We are taking these children out of the slum and sending them on a Road to Freedom, to attend a beautiful boarding school. There, they receive clean water, 3x meals, medical care, a bed, safety and an education
Only 8% of girls in Kibera slum have the opportunity to go to school. There is no infrastructure or access to clean water. It can be dangerous at night with no electricity to light the way. Phaustine, has recently lost both parents. She had just arrived in Kibera for the first time to the house of relatives. She looked under nourished in shock and afraid, and yet she was able to whisper that she wanted to go to school. Today, Phaustine, is excelling in boarding school.
We solve this problem with a holistic approach. By raising money to send kids to boarding school, we solve many problems at once. At the boarding school, they receive BASIC HUMAN NEEDS...clean water, 3x meals a day, a bed, a uniform and safety from rape and violence. After these girls have received a bed, proper nutrition and medical care, they are thriving. RFS family of girls from Kibera, have become a strong resource and pseudo family of support for each other.
We see so many children, with so much talent and sheer force of will to survive, we want to help them onto a Road to Freedom. We empower and inspire these children so they are free to act on their own beliefs, advocate for themselves and others and become leaders of their communities. It doesn't matter where you come from, only where you are going. Most people look at the slum and see a huge, unsolvable problem. We see huge untapped potential!
