Restoring ecosystems creates a world of abundance and provides humanity with hope for a better future. Ecosystem Restoration Communities is a global movement of everyday people restoring the earth. Around 60 ERCs (projects) have already planted 3,255,917 trees & plants since 2017, and are currently restoring 9,323 ha. Restoring degraded land draws carbon down and cools the surface temperature of the earth. It also increases local biodiversity, restores water systems, and improves food-security.
Healthy ecosystems underpin everything that humanity needs to sustain life on this planet yet almost three quarters of the earth is degraded and more than 3 billion people are affected by soil erosion caused by land mismanagement & unsustainable agricultural techniques. It is vital that we act now to reverse the effects of climate change and land degradation that is bringing about biodiversity loss, a lack of food & water security, compromised livelihoods and a reduction in carbon sequestration.
Ecosystem Restoration Communities is a global, bottom-up movement that restores earth's ecosystems. ERCs are living laboratories where experts and local communities work together to restore ecosystems and livelihoods. ERCs engage thousands of people through citizen science and hands-on work to introduce regenerative practices that will make it possible for humanity to thrive on this planet. We empower community-led projects to take the lead on the restoration movement and reach a global impact!
By rehabilitating damaged ecosystems and practicing regenerative agriculture, Ecosystem Restoration Communities are restoring the natural function to the land on thousands of hectares globally. This leads to an increase in soil fertility; a reduction in soil erosion, floods and drought; and the re-establishment of entire food webs. Restoring the earth brings about a significant reduction in poverty through the return of sustainable livelihoods in degraded areas.
