Summary

After over 20 years in a cycle of war in Kivu, Ex-combatants are accused of being one of the causes of insecurity in Eastern DRC. Unfortunately after they made the choice of lay down their arms and reintegrate into civilian life, they are idle and remobilized lack of supervision. This project aims to facilitate the ex-combatant reintegration in the comunity and access to the reintegration opportunities. Namely income generating activities (Agr), micro-projects and vocational training.

Challenge

The socio-economic reintegration of ex-combatants is probably the crucial phase, given that the consolidation of the peace process depends on the ability of ex-combatants to be integrated in civil society and in the post-conflict economy. At least 50,000 young elements associated with armed forces and groups have been demobilized. According to the organizations involved, only 1/3 elements were inserted; others are waiting lengthy procedures to be supported.

Solution

First, the family involvement in income-generating activities is positive. Many ex-combatants do not reflect well on their project,That is why we will give them professional training better adapted to local realities. Former combatants who form a cooperative generally have more success. Thus, after training, the ex-combatants will be grouped according to the activities and form integral production units. Some groups will integrate civilian members of the community to facilitate reintegration.

Long-Term Impact

This project will help the socio-economic reintegration of 500 former combatants by providing vocational training and support for starting an economic activity which will avoid their remobilization into armed forces and groups and facilitate social cohesion and Community Development in Kivu long time ravaged by repeated wars.
