Hunger and malnutrition is daily assuming a monstrous dimension in Nigeria. The statistics are horrendous and alarming as they come. Most worrisome is the unending string of conflicts in the middle -belt, north-east regions and Niger Delta militancy crisis ;which greatly compromises the food security and nutrition of millions of Nigerians domiciled within such identified troubled spots .Sadly the numbers keeps increasing by the day.
Skills and knowledge in agriculture are linked to the larger environment viz mainstream curriculum; soft-skills, financial management. The farm activities are also linked to the mainstream curriculum such as charting the growth of plants in graphs and calculating how much produce can be grown on a given area of land to practice mathematics. Produce of the 'Nutrition farm' is sold and the income is use to support independent farming among adolescents which are deposited on their behalf in banks.
The project will train 100 adolescents allowing them to become stakeholders in solving the hunger crisis in their communities. If we provide this skills, more adolescents will take to farming instead of waiting at home for white collar jobs.
