District Diamer in Pakistan is a remote, impoverished region. Gender is the organizing principle of society. Patriarchal values embedded in local traditions, religion and culture predetermine the social value of gender. KIDF has started training women in textiles, handicrafts and embroidery and have successfully marketed products. We believe that investing in women's economic empowerment is crucial for gender equality and women's rights, poverty eradication and inclusive economic growth.
Majority of the women in the area are illiterate and contribute only to the house hold work and farming. KIDF has worked in District Gilgit with assistance of generous donors and worked in one Tehsil of the District Diamer and economically empowered over 1000 women since last one and half years. The work has been a great success in the area where the women have a marginal role to play in the development of the society.
KIDF, through its proposed project of Women Economic Empowerment through Vocational Trainings in District Diamer, will establish 6 vocational training centres in 6 villages of District Diamer to train 320 women. The women will be empowered economically and earn the livelihood for themselves and for their household. As a result, the women will contribute positively for the society at large.
To uplift the socio-economic condition of the women by making them a positive contributor in poverty reduction. Enable Women empowerment through development of skills required for small scale home based entrepreneurships. Bring awareness, independence and self-actualization among the women folks of the area. Provide an opportunity of sustainable self-employment for the women of the area.
