At Karin Community Initiaitve Uganda, we are empowering youth to make a difference for both motherhood and our environment in Gulu. Our unique program, "Empowering Youth: Recycling for Mother and Environment," encourages young individuals to take action through bottle recycling.

THe program focuses on engaging youth in and around the health centre in the village of Laliya, Gulu to collect plastic bottles from their communities. These bottles are then recycled for a dual purpose, supporting maternal health services and promoting sustainability.

We invite young individuals in Gulu to get involved in the following ways:
1. Bottle Collection Drives: Organize bottle collection drives in schools, neighborhoods, and youth groups. Encourage peers to bring in their used plastic bottles.
2. Creative Recycling Projects: Inspire youth creativity by organizing workshops on turning plastic bottles into useful items. Ideas include:
- Creating flower pots for community gardens.
- Designing artistic decorations for public spaces.
- Constructing eco-friendly furniture for schools or community centers.

This youth-Led Recycling Campaign empowers youth to lead awareness campaigns about the importance of recycling. Using social media, community events, and school assemblies to spread the message.

For every bottle collected, a portion of the proceeds goes towards supporting maternal health programs. These funds directly benefit maternal healthcare services, such as prenatal care, skilled birth attendance, and postnatal care for mothers and their newborns.

Through the recycling of plastic bottles, youth contribute to reducing plastic waste in Gulu. This initiative not only keeps our environment clean and free of pollution but also promotes sustainable practices for a healthier community.

We call upon you friends to support these energetic and passionate youth of Gulu in designing projects that can make a difference:
1. Organize Bottle Collection Events: fundraising for bicycle and big back for collecting plastic bottles from their neighborhoods.

2. Create Eco-Friendly Projects: Using creativity to turn plastic bottles into something useful.  Beautify public spaces or improve community facilities.

3. Spread the Message: Be ambassadors for recycling! Share the importance of recycling and its impact on maternal health and the environment with your peers and community.

Since the launch of the program, we have seen enthusiastic participation from youth, leading to a positive impact on maternal health services and reduced plastic waste in Gulu.

In the future, we aim to:  Expand youth involvement by reaching more schools and youth organizations; Implement more creative recycling projects to showcase the potential of plastic bottle recycling and continue supporting maternal health programs through youth-driven initiatives.

"Empowering Youth: Recycling for Mother and Environment" at KCIU is not just about recycling bottles; it's about empowering young individuals to be changemakers in their community. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on maternal health and create a greener, cleaner environment for generations to come.
