Summary

This aims at empowering transgender persons in Uganda with skills that will enable them to defend their rights and interests in an organized manner. By re-energizing the transgender. Your donation will educate the stakeholders about transgender rights, issues through community-based education and learning approach. Re-mobilize and rehabilitate transgender members in solidarity groups established; collaborate with sister human rights organizations in Uganda and advocate the rights.

Challenge

The transgender network in Uganda is reorienting itself is faced with organized hate campaign by homophobic society, the government through legislation of draconian laws, & Police harassment. This has threatened, hindered transgender to come out to seek sex education that relates to their sexuality. With legal restriction, harassment, going underground and operating in hazard way; Poor organizational capacity staff are not properly empowered to manage ever increasing transgender challenges.

Solution

This aims to promote rights of sexual minorities at the community level, involve mobilizing and organizing transgenders into solidarity groups; Promoting, protecting their rights; HIV/AIDS prevention; Build capacity of transgender individuals/groups in this volatile situation where both the state and society have conspired to make the operation of transgender network in Uganda difficult and communities observe the transgender as wrong people.

Long-Term Impact

With well-organized, well-coordinated transgender network which is fully aware of their rights and regularly meeting for purpose of enhancing their human rights knowledge/HIV/AIDS with efficient organized staff, transgender community will be best positioned to effectively protect their rights on an informed basis and legally challenge any human rights violation in the country. The solidarity groups/committees re-organized and strengthened continuously functional even after the project period.
