The project aims at training120 youth in vocational skills in trades of their choice, in order to be self reliant & contribute to the well-being of their families, communities & Uganda as a whole. Selected youth will be mobilized to work in groups at village level. This is intended to promote collective production & marketing of the produce by group members. Linkage to other programs eg Youth Livelihood Program, Youth Venture Fund, where they can mobilize further finances will be done by CPAU.
Kibaale District has suffered manmade catastrophes such as the Guerrilla wars,Land & tribal conflicts stemming from the 1900 Buganda Agreement & uncontrolled internal migrations. Such catastrophe led to collapse of existing social infrastructure, services, property loss & productive assets. Half of the youth are a semi literate generation with no skills to engage in productive activities.HIV/AIDS is killing bread winners leaving behind many orphans with low capital base for sustainable livelihoods
CPAU Project "Empower 120 Youth in Apprenticeship in Kibaale is to build the capacity of selected vulnerable youth in different trades in order to make them self reliance so as to live meaningful lives. To reduce on unemployment & give them hope for a better future. By training in apprenticeship skills, giving start up tools, revolving fund scheme & access to business mentors, & the anticipated government support, & other skills training, CPAU is transforming lives of many youth in Kibaale.
By investing in apprenticeship skills & development of these out of school youth, child headed households, OVC households & local artisans, we not only prevent them from becoming victims of manipulation & exploitation, but we free them to succeed, rise from poverty, & change the future for their families, their children, & determine their destiny. These youth are a new generation with the new innovative skills imparted & tools received. These youths will support many Ugandans out of poverty.
