October has not been a favourable month in terms of placements of PWDs. A total number of 3 placements were made. The project team is working to identify companies that are more receptive to hiring people with disabilities, through partner organisations. Events will be held to engage multiple potential employers at once, to utilise time more effectively.

What was achieved this month?

  • 3 candidates were selected and commenced employment.
  • 11 candidates were interviewed/evaluated in this month.

What are we proud of?

  • 1 intellectually challenged candidate completed their internship successfully at Gul Ahmed and have been offered regular employment
  • Catcos, a call centre outsourcing company, was contacted 4 months ago and they chose to run a training course free of cost for 20 visually impaired and physically challenged candidates. In this regard KESC have interviewed 2 visual impaired recommended by CATCOS and the short listed candidates are waiting for second interview call form KESC.
  • NOWPDP team visited Artistic Milliners to see the performance of employed PWDs.Performance of people are satisfied according to the employers.

What companies did we meet, or that agreed to take PWDs?

  • Pakistan Cables Pvt Ltd was approached and the outcome was positive.

  • Number of companies met: 1  (planned 2)
  • Number of applicant CVs sent to employers: 14 (planned 20)
  • Number of applicants selected but not started: 0
  • Number of candidates who joined placements: 3 (planned 10)

September has not been a favourable month in terms of placement. The month was spent in chasing potential new employers.

Evaluation camps were held for the Hearing Impaired and other disabilities. 

What was achieved this month?

  • 6 candidates with hearing impairments were selected by Artistic Milliners.
  • 16 candidates were interviewed for the new company (Lucky Garments).

What are we proud of?

  • 4 candidates were selected by Artistic Milliner  and have been offered regular employment in this month.

What companies did we meet, or that agreed to take PWDs?

  • Lucky Garments was approached and the outcome was positive, leading to the review of profiles of candidates.
  • NOWPDP met with BBQ Tonight and Shahbaz Garments who are willing to take PWDs in future.

  • Number of companies met: 3 (planned 2)
  • Number of applicant CVs sent to employers: 29 (planned 20)
  • Number of applicants selected but not started: 0
  • Number of applicants that commenced employment: 6 (planned: 10)

August 2011 was a slow month for PWDs being hired due to Ramadan, where companies have shortened work hours and are generally less productive.

What was achieved this month?

  • 7 PWDs were placed in employment: 3 at Gul Ahmed, 3 at Gul Bahao as telephone operators and 1 at National Foods

What are we proud of?

  • Evaluation of 6 people with intellectually challenged were held and their CVs sent to Gul Ahmed Textiles. 

What companies did we meet?

  • NOWPDP staff met with 2 companies (OCS and Pharmatec) and both seemed keen on the idea of hiring PWDs.

Monthly Goals:

  • Number of companies met: 2 (planned: 2)
  • Number of applicant CVs sent to employers: 20 (planned: 20)
  • Number of applicants commencing employment: 7 (planned: 10)
  • Number of applicants selected but not commenced: 5

In July, there were some delays with the hiring of candidates that were interviewed during the month, who will commence their work in August. In addition, more people are in the pipeline that will start their employment in future.

What was achieved this month?

  • 2 people with disabilities commenced employment as a machine operator in Artistic Milliner
  • 1 mentally challenged person has been placed in a nursery as a gardener and other 1 commenced as a packer in Gul Ahmed.

What are we proud of?

  • Evaluation of 9 people with intellectually challenged were held and their CVs sent to Gul Ahmed Textiles. 

What companies did we meet?

NOWPDP staff met with ARY and Embassy Inn.

Monthly Goals:

  • Number of companies met: 2 (planned: 2)
  • Number of applicant CVs sent to employers: 25 (planned: 20)
  • Number of applicants commencing employment: 4 (planned: 10)
  • Number of applicants selected but not commenced: 7

June 2011 has an average month in terms of PWDs being hired, but other activities pertaining to the employment programme took place.

A total number of 9 PWDs were placed in employment. 2 organizations from the banking sector were met, and resulted in them committing to hire PWDs from NOWPDP.

What was achieved this month?

  • 9 candidates were selected in total in various companies.
  • Out of the 21 CVs sent, 2 candidates are awaiting response for the month of June
  • A total number of 21 CVs were sent to various companies for interviews

What are we proud of?

Catcos, an outsourcing call center company, invited NOWPDP and held a certificate distribution event, and complimented us for our employment generation programme.

The event also supported us by getting us connected to the president of P@SHA (Pakistan Software Houses Association) who is keen to partner with NOWPDP in future to find employment for people with disabilities in the IT industry.

2 companies in the banking sector were met: United Bank Limited, Bank Al Habib
