Hidden Villa Summer Camp Scholarships Feb 2011

Hidden Villa Summer Camp Scholarship Update February 28, 2011

Dear Supporters,

Hidden Villa’s campaign to provide Summer Camp Scholarships in 2011 is off to a great start.  Here are some highlights:

  • Summer Camp Registration opened on January 26th, 2011.  After one month, 925 of the 1,100 available spaces four our Summer Camps have been filled, with Day Camp and Tipi Camp being a few campers shy of their capacity.
  • To ensure that Hidden Villa Summer Camps reach out to as many under resourced families in as many communities as possible, we recruit scholarship campers through partnerships with a number of local agencies and organizations.  This year we have added a new partnership organization, the I Have a Dream Foundation, which will allow us to access a new community in East Palo Alto.  We have also had a number of our partner agencies request an increased number of spaces in our day and residential summer camps.
  • Hidden Villa has made substantial progress towards our 2011 target of providing $160,000 in camp scholarships to families in need.  So far, we have secured $110,000 towards our goal.  We are specifically looking to raise $5,500 through the Global Giving website and as of February 27th, we have received a little over $500 towards our goal.  One of our donors has even doubled their gift by getting it matched by their employer’s matching gift program.  The $500 we’ve currently raised through Global Giving is enough to provide a scholarship for our 5-day residential Tipi Camp.
  • Based on the funds we’ve raised through Global Giving, Hidden Villa will be able to offer a Tipi Camp Scholarship to a young woman named Ella.  In 2010, Ella’s sister, Collette, attended Hidden Villa’s 12-day Resident Camp and claimed that “it was the best 12 days ever!”  Now, Ella’s parents want to provide their other daughter with a similar experience, but as they are both part-time teachers and teacher’s aides living in Santa Cruz, they can’t afford the tuition.  Thanks to your support, Ella is poised to have her own character-building experience at Hidden Villa Summer Camp.

Thank you so much for enriching the lives of summer campers like Ella by supporting Hidden Villa’s Summer Camp Scholarship program.  Together we will help inspire these campers to become active and conscientious participants in a just and sustainable future.
