Challenge

There are currently more than 2,000 homes destroyed in Oaxaca by the latest big earthquake in Mexico this past June. 1st, Oaxaca is one of the poorest states in Mexico, in which a lot of communities don't have suitable roads to get the aid they need and even don't speak spanish, but their own beautiful origin languages; 2nd, Oaxaca has a large record of recent major earthquakes, therefore the affectations it suffer is deeper; & 3rd, in the middle of a pandemic, PEOPLE NEED HOMES TO STAY SAFE!

Solution

Techo Mexico has a large experience aiding through this speciffic natural disaster and our emergency homes programm has already built more than 5,000 units and movilized 60,000 volunteers for this matter. The global pandemic certainly presents us additional challenges, therefore we adapted our working model in terms of avoiding risks of infections. For this emergency, we are going to build 100 emergency homes + 100 rainwater collection systems for the most needed families we identified.

Long-Term Impact

These emergency homes can last 30 years and are designed to provide a secure space for families in the short, medium and medium-long term. Thier rainwater collection systems last even longer and allow families to spare around 5 hors a week in time now being used to get the liquid. Even when the project is meant to impact inmediatly so families can resguard themselves in times of the pandemic, this programm will aid them over the next thirty years in sparing greatly part of their cost of life.
