Summer's Here, It's Hard to Think About Being Cold
By Ron Bannister | Development Specialist
Oregon HEAT was busy all winter long helping Oregon families stay in a warm and well-lit home. In fact over 15,000 individuals in Oregon were helped with their emergency energy assistance. Now that summer is here, most of us are thinking about bar-b-ques, picnics and walks on the warm sandy beaches. It is hard to imagine during the several months coming up that anyone would worry about a cold and dark house. Oregon HEAT raises funds year round and even in the hot summer months when you are thinking about nice ice cold drinks and splashing into the backyard pool, we know that there will be many families who will need help with their energy bills this upcoming winter. So we ask all of you while you’re enjoying the cool summer breezes and a nice cold tropical drink that if you have some extra dollars to donate, Oregon HEAT is collecting for our next winter when there will be thousands of Oregon families who will need our help.

Winter reminds us that the HEAT must stay on!
By Ron Bannister | Development Specialist
Oregon HEAT continues to ensure that every donation goes to help low-income families in Oregon with their emergency heating needs. We are so excited to see that our current project has raised $1,225 to help Oregonians with their emergency energy assistance. Winter has been pretty tough this year on Oregonians. Cold temperatures, pounding rain, snow and driving wind all make for miserable conditions. Just imagine if your heat source has been turned off or you are afraid to turn the thermostat up because you can’t afford to pay your heating bill. So many Oregonians are in this situation. Our unemployment is still hovering in the 10.5% range and many have exhausted their benefits all together. Oregon HEAT is seeing that need! We hope you can take some time to help you neighbors who might be feeling the cold, even inside their homes. This current year we are seeing one in five households in need of emergency energy assistance.
Our fiscal period ending June 30, 2010, Oregon HEAT with the help of over 6,000 donors was able to ensure that 5,159 households across Oregon were able to stay in a warm and well-lit home. We are on target to help at least that many households this fiscal year. With your help we can! Remember, every dollar that is given is added to other donations and eventually it will be enough to help a household with their emergency energy needs. It takes approximately $109 to help just one person in Oregon with their heat and lights. Oregon HEAT operates on the principal of "neighbor helping neighbor" If you can afford to help you neighbor, please give today!
