As indicated by the statement on the challenges Uganda has gone through, one of the categories of the population, which has been affected greatly, are the children. There are many vulnerable children who are at risk, which include orphans, street and displaced children.
It is with this background that Elgon Youth Development Centre will be launched to bring healing and offer childcare and protection of the children who are especially in difficult circumstances.
The youth and children being the pillars of the next generation need to be holistically empowered in order to be able to pass on the values, norms and wishes of individual communities. Various attempts have been made by government, NGOs and individuals to see that systems are put in place for the general welfare of children such as provision of free primary and secondary education, vocational training, guidance, counselling and reproductive health programmes. However, less has been done to help.
These will include:
To conduct Vocational Training programmes for the disadvantaged children.
To establish a sponsorship scheme to give educational opportunities to 100 disadvantaged children.
To promote the spiritual well being of the disadvantaged children.
Facilitate the reunion of street children back to their families.
To support IGAs initiatives among 50 foster families.
To engage children in social responsibility activities
Beneficiaries will cooperate and acquire skills in various income generating activities of the project which will help them fight poverty and it's rate in the community.
