This project aims to assess and help with repair and/or replacement of an existing water delivery system which delivers insufficient and unsafe water to a semi urban community in Honduras.
El Negrito is a semi-urban municipality located in Yoro, Honduras. The community is currently served by a 20 km deteriorated water line built in 1994 which is delivering water to an undersized water tank. An on-the-ground assessment has shown that sections of the water line have deteriorated beyond repair and need to be replaced. There are days when none of the houses receive any water. A water quality test has revealed that this water has pollutant concentrations at unacceptable levels.
The team will work with the local govt. and Peace Corps to assess the existing pipeline, water quality and demand, tank size and condition, and future water requirements as well as help with education and training required for a sustainable project.
Our project aims to bring clean water to over 600 homes (4,000 people), decrease illness and death related to unsafe water, improve hygiene, increase quality of life and help with providing a sustainable system for the people of El Negrito Honduras
