Summary

Our project aims to help 6 schools of low resources (2,000 children and 40 teachers) located in five localities of the state of Yucatan, Mexico. We will train their teachers to use educational digital tools and how to introduce them to their teaching agenda. The schools will receive educational quality content (fun educational video games), a technological visit, three pedagogical trainings and usage reports of the video games. That way we promote equity in education and reduce the digital gap.

Challenge

The statistics based on Mexican and international evaluations that measure students' knowledge show that more than half of the elementary students have insufficient or basic skills. This percentage is higher in children from rural schools like the ones in this project. Free equal access to quality basic education is a prerequisite to productive participation in modern globalized societies, if not: low social mobility, inequality, crime, low economic growth, among others will continue.

Solution

Our project aims to support, complement and reinforce traditional education propitiating proactive participation of children through our highly attractive educational videogames. While the children use the games they increase their knowledge and skills. This promotes greater equity in the basic level of education, reduce the digital gap, encourage communities to improve their life quality, and support one of the Sustainable Development Goals: Quality Education.

Long-Term Impact

We conducted standardized tests and found that usage of our learning system based on educational videogames improves academic performance 5%, approximately. This way the 2,000 children will gain more skills, and knowledge; and the 40 teachers will improve their teaching quality (subsequently more children will be benefited). That way, children from Yucatan will get a better job and consequently produce more development in the communities, state and country.
