This money funds a one year specific educational program. Children of our program belong to vulnerable communities and environments, and their families have little time or money to care for them. Our psychologists will be carrying out workshops and will get involved in wider perspective family and social work. Whilst our coaches (also trained in social welfare) will aim to teach these values through football, allowing the children to be engaged and put the values they've learned into practice.
The challenge we are facing is that of lack of education, lack of opportunities and lack of community support. These are large problems facing the local communities here in Medellin and it is our aim to help reduce the effect these problems are having. This is incredibly important to us as a Medellin based organisation with direct ties with these communities.
Our methodology involves a participative process to generate a range of academic, social and football skills for the benefit of both the child and family. We employee several psychologists to work with the children. Educational workshops are intended to teach the children key values and provide them with tools for living. Family and social work 24/7 to support and strengthen the family dynamics of the child. Football coaches are also trained in welfare and help ingrain values learned.
Through the implementation of this project, hundreds of children from at-risk communities will have been given tools and opportunities to further their education and make a better life for themselves. We will be directly increasing access and quality of education within these areas. Support networks will also be made available. We work with over a dozen psychologists and volunteers who offer support to both children and families, making the scope wider than just the children involved.
