Count-down for 10 km run
Sports Development Aid organized a running event - Mtwara Marathon in Mtwara town on 30th of November to raise funds for the renovation of our future inclusive Sports and Education Centre supporting people with disabilities and school drop-out youth with vocational education. The runners run 5 km, 10 km or 20 km. The slogan “Right to Be Me” carried an important message about the rights of people with disabilities to live a normal life and to be included into the society as equal members.
The Guest of Honor - Regional Commissioner of Mtwara was very happy to see that the event was prepared specially to highlight people with disabilities and their rights, who are neglected in the society. The Regional Commissioner insisted that this group needs attention and the society’s support so that they can be independent and meet their goals in life (see his entire speech via attached link). He gave his contribution 200,000 TSH (90 USD) towards the center and encourage other people to donate as well that we can help this special group.
Around 200 people participated in the marathon, including 10 disabled students from Shangani and Rahaleo primary schools. They run 10 kilometers and Said Hussein, a boy from Shangani Primary School won a silver medal. Saidi’s teacher Mis. Amina was very impressed to see her student winning the second place, “many people don’t recognize people with disabilities, however, they can do wonders as normal people can”.
From the beginning of 2020, Sports Development Aid’s major focus will be in fundraising for the Sports and Education Center, thus, all the support is needed from all over the world. Please make your first contribution towards our project and share it with your friends and family.
