Dieunord's Story - A young man with big dreams

Saturday
Saturday

In REBUILD globally’s Apprenticeship Program we are committed to providing access to education while fostering a sense of ownership and entrepreneurial thinking in all of students. Dieunord is a prime example of how business training and education can come together to improve lives. Before entering the Apprenticeship Program, Dieunord struggled to pay his own school fees by selling candy and calling cards on street corners. The income was small and he was often forced to take time off school to save enough for tuition. At 24, Dieunord is currently finishing his junior year of high school. Because of the scholarship and vocational training provided by REBUILD globally, Dieunord will earn his diploma much quicker and rejoin the workforce with a higher paying position.

Dieunord lives with his younger brother and fellow RG Apprentice, Guitho; REBUILD globally prefers to work with entire families whenever possible. This holistic approach is more effective because it addresses the needs of a particular family from multiple angles. Because of his age and responsibilities, Dieunord does not just need traditional education; he needs practical, employable skills. RG’s Apprenticeship Program strives to address this need relevant to the majority of Haiti’s young population.

Dieunord is a hard working individual and continues his part-time business selling sweets; some of his best costumers are his fellow Apprentices! He is equally committed to his studies, and often spends free time reading French novels and practicing his English, which has rapidly improved from the time he joined the REBUILD family. Dieunord has even helped translate for RG’s international staff! With only one more year until graduation, Dieunord plans to apply his microenterprise experience and REBUILD entrepreneurial training towards a career in agribusiness, which can be a lucrative sector in Haiti’s economy. Dieunord has big dreams, and REBUILD globally is thrilled to be a part of bringing them to fruition. Like the 19 other young people in RG’s Apprenticeship Program, Dieunord has a bright and stable future ahead of him because of his increased level of education and knowledge of enterprise.
