You make this happen!

INDU

Indu is a happy confident, ten-year-old girl who has benefitted from the project that you have contributed to.  Indu had previously never been to school in her village in Madhubani District, Bihar, India, from where her family relocated in 2015 to Gurugram, Haryana, India, to earn a livelihood.

After moving to Gurugram her parents decided that, as they could not afford to educate all their children, they would send her two brothers to school while Indu would help her mother with domestic chores. They then heard about Shiksha's free Education Centres from others in the community and her brothers were brought there for admission. Shiksha staff, upon learning that young Indu was an out of school girl at home, counselled her parents. They advised them that, despite being seven years old and never having attended school before, Indu could still be admitted and aspire for a better life through education. Her parents agreed to admit her in Shiksha, along with her brothers, since there would be no financial burden.

Three years have passed since Indu joined Shiksha and we are delighted to share that this year she achieved the best exam result and assessment in her whole class! She is a star pupil, always cheerful and ever ready to help her classmates. She is the first girl in her family to have attained basic literacy.

We will also be grooming Indu over the next few years to prepare her for competitive scholarship exams in Class V to continue her education. She says, "I like my class teacher and meeting my friends here". She wants to be a policewoman someday and we hope that we can help her realize her dream. We are also encouraging her mother to attend Shiksha's evening Adult Literacy classes; she hopes to join soon and follow Indu's lead.

This is just one of the impactful stories from Shiksha that your donation has helped make possible. Please consider making a recurring donation to ensure that Shiksha can continue to help children like Indu empower themselves through education.
