Education Not Exploitation for Girls in Kenya

by Team Kenya

Help us keep 1000 girls safe so that they can complete their education, reducing their risk of HIV infection, early marriage and teenage pregnancy, giving them a chance of a happy, healthy successful life. Our work helps reduce injustices against vulnerable girls and provides them with opportunities, giving hope for a better future, breaking the cycle of poverty and raising living standards for the whole community.

Ndhiwa is a remote part of Kenya where poverty forces girls to marry early, drop out of school and some even resort to selling their bodies in exchange for food and sanitary pads. For the most vulnerable girls, human rights violations combine with extreme poverty: the girls despair and give up hope. Girls aged 15-19 are five times more likely to be HIV positive than boys of their age. This complex problem has no single solution; we work to create a unique, sustainable, integrated programme

We provide our girls with everything they need to feel valued safe and to succeed. We offer both practical and equally important moral support, including leadership business and life skills training, a girl's safe house, scholarships, girl's football, health education and a eco-friendly sanitary pad project

Long-Term Impact

We will reduce HIV infection, sexual abuse, early pregnancy, and abortion among our girls, stop the need for forced early marriage, and enable girls to complete their education whilst increasing their status, self esteem and confidence. At least 1000 girls will have the knowledge and skills to enable them to participate in decisions about their own lives, achieve their potential, end the cycle of poverty and bring positive lasting change to their community
