The project will support 2 community pre-schools with learning and play materials. It will also ensure that qualified teaching staff are available to help the children improve their reading and math skills. Community volunteers will be trained to support the 130 children in the preschools through after-school play, creative projects and ensure that children can learn through play. Our young volunteers are 100% local and engaged with the project and the families.
1 in 10 children aged 3 - 6 yrs in rural areas of Zambia is out of school. These children are found in trading place, with their parents. They face physical, sexual abuse and violence. This harmful exploitative labor denies children their right to be children. Children must not be raising income for the family when they must be in school. Research has shown us that children without early learning education have lower chances of progressing in their education due to social and mental status
The project will sensitize parents and mobilize them to take their children to early learning and education centers. Children enrolled will be cared for by trained community volunteer care-givers and taught by qualified teaching staff. Child friendly play equipment and materials will be provided to ensure children receive the best possible support to overcome trauma and other psychological issues affecting their development. After school programs will ensure follow up to homes and schools.
The project will rescue, support and prepare 130 children for their first grade and ensure that these children progress in their education. The project will help build a strong community of change that is responsible for its children and their future. In the long term, the children will grow up to be responsible adults that are financially independent and positive role models in the community. The project is also building future leaders in government, civil society and business.
