We are pleased to update our supporters about Mother Support Groups in Zimbabwe, who are helping children stay in school with support from GlobalGiving.
Mothers Making a Difference
Mother Support Groups (MSG) are volunteer groups comprised of mothers and grandmothers, most of whom have no formal schooling and live in relative poverty. MSGs are formed based on members’ shared commitment to supporting orphaned and vulnerable children’s education and helping improve their communities.
The Importance of Mother Support Groups
Members of Mother Support Groups serve as nurturers, protectors and advocates for children and as community educators. For example, they are trained to protect children from abusive situations, and they in turn share their knowledge with other community members, ensuring that safeguarding children’s wellbeing is a community effort.
Mother Support Groups teach their communities the importance of children’s education for present and future generations, and they also actively support children through school. To do this, women grow and sell produce and other goods to provide school supplies and other materials to children in need. To date, in partnership with Camfed’s alumi association (CAMA), they have helped support 103,7000 children through school in Zimbabwe.
Continuing Mother Support Groups’ Work
Thank you for your support to help Mother Support Groups care for children in their communities. Through these groups, dedicated women are serving as mentors and role models for children and ensuring that they have all the supplies they need to stay in school and succeed.Attachments:
