Budding Gardens in Rural Township

By Yolande Delport | Project Leader

Making a garden come true!
Making a garden come true!

The month of October is huge garden month in our area. Our annual garden competition is around the corner and there are 36 garden entries waiting viewing.

The competition aims at getting people to grow their own vegetables, fruit and beautifying their homes. In order to support sustainability of the project, prices for the winners include much needed tanks for water harvesting, wheel barrows, spades and small garden implements as well as trees, seeds and seedlings.

Our village is far from the nearest town and villagers have very little means of income to ensure fresh and wholesome food get to the table that will sustain little tummies and immune systems.

We work in close collobaration with Umthathi, a permaculture organisation that has facilitated school and community gardens based on permaculture principles.

You can make a donation to this wonderful project no matter how small or big, every contribution will realise growing gardens to provide food for every one of our 80 households. I am including a list for your perusal to assist you in how you could make a difference.

Water tanks (large)     - $384          ( medium) - $192                     (small) - $76

Wheelbarrow    - $25

Fruit trees -  $10

Seed packs for 10 pack- $10

We thank you for considering this project and will keep you informed of the outcome of our garden competition that will take place on October 28th

Our sincere thanks
