Living in a small rural town far removed from city centres, libraries and internet, any stimulation especially in the form of music, books, magazines and films are devoured with ferocious appetite. Riebeeck East is home to about 250 boys and girls who all welcome opportunities to learn, express and explore, with open arms.
This term has seen the Ibhabhathane Early Years Facility collaborate with the Riebeeck East Service Centre, an organisation that looks after the needs of the elderly in our community. The aim of the collaboration was to make game and book bags for our little ones.
Once a week each of our children will take their story bag home. In it will be a game and a story book. Although our littlelies can’t read, their older siblings, friends or family members will be encouraged to do so. And to play games and build puzzles that are wonderful pre-reading skills. Every Tuesday the bags will come back to school and go back home with a new toy, game and book. Not only does such a project make resources more available but creates skills opportunities such as sewing classes for our elderly and information sharing regarding Early Years Education.
The Ibhabhathane is very fortunate to have build-up quite a selection of games, books and puzzles which enables us to continue with the above project. And for that we can thank you, our wonderful donors who give so generously.
We thank you for that and for creating windows of opportunities that otherwise would have been very difficult to find.
Thank you for your caring and your giving. May you always find the compassion to continue with your good work.
