Feed & Teach 34 children age 0-4 in S/Afr village

The Ibhabhathane Community Centre had an influx of little children between the ages of 14 months to 2 years. So much so, that we had to appoint for the first time, a permanent, practioner assistant. We are delighted and very thankful for the resources our Global Giving funders provide in order for us to give these little children the absolute quality care they deserve.

In order to grow our parents’ knowledge on what Early Years Development is all about we invited them to a Valentines Tea on Tuesday, February 14^th. They had such enormous fun learning how number knowledge can be applied to something as fun as making face biscuits with their children; experiencing sensory activities first hand; understanding how you can use certain sensory activities to calm children when they are feeling distressed. Never before have we had such a turn-out of interested parents. A huge thank you for every donation received that allowed for materials to be bought and realising such a happy event!

With the end of the school year a day away and the first day of the New Year not feeling too far away…we celebrated our little ones with a Xmas feast!

It all commenced with traditional isiXhosa games, having little ones screeching with delight. The day was bright and hot ….so out came the plastic sheet, a couple buckets of water, clothes off and the growing excitement a few notches up.

Once cooled down, we went inside and listened to Rudolph the Reindeer, a story our children love. Then off to lunch. The children spontaneously burst into song when first they saw were tinselled tree, gifts and twinkling lights! Because of funding from GlobalGiving we could provide a beautiful meal, dessert and a little surprise pack for each little child to take home.

We were very fortunate to have a wonderful Farther Xmas, who had a gift for each little child.

Our little kids were delighted…some a little shy but holding onto their gifts with all their might. No one unwrapped, each held their gift close to be opened at home…to witness the excitement and pleasure of a small child receiving a gift brought such deep joy to one’s heart that I wished each and every donor could be present just to see for a moment how much his/her giving brings to an organisation such as ours.

Thank you for realising once again a very special event and making sure that an Early Childhood Centre can remain in effective operation in the smallest of towns in the Eastern Cape.
