Education drive project aims support 220 students for next four years from vulnerable families to complete education who have been affected by school drop out due to fees, early pregnancies due to family poverty levels and young youth for vocational skills training. Impact increased literacy levels among pastoralists children dropped, better living standards access to jobs or involvement in social enterprises which not only be benefit to individuals but entire society due to usage of products.
The Turkana community faced persistent drought, famine and insecurity making the county food which has costed human lives including loss of property hence increasing poverty levels to 93% nationally. Theeducation sectors due to these has been the most affected with increased drop out from schools as result of , absentiseem, early marriages among girls, commercial sex by young girls from poor families. The categories affected are girls aged 12-17 years, youth dropped from secondary and colleges.
The project Education Rights for Vulnarable Children aims at establishing education scholarship fund as fees solution, supply of sanitary towels to girls, personal requirements to orphans and vulnerable children, vocational skills training for young girls and boys affected by early marriages and boys in making them more relevant and acceptable to the society. Education drive, carrier counselling in learning institutions and construction of pit latrines is vital for friendly learning environment.
The education fund shall enable 160 beneficiaries complete studies thus better their living standards, vocational skills development for 60 students makes the trainees skillful resource and easy access of their services at the village level at more affordable cost compared to the current gaps in sourcing the services over 200,000 residents of Turkana South. The education drive and carrier counselling in 26 schools and 5 professionals associations shall bridge professional diversity gaps.
