Education 4 All! will break through the barriers to education for children with disabilities through providing special needs teacher training to 200 teachers and equipping 50 schools with the resources to meet the needs of pupils with disabilities.
In Belize, disability is ignored. However, it is estimated that up toto 1 in every 5 children in Belize has a disability - that's around 25,000 in the country aged 0-14 years. Currently there is no legislation which provides for the rights of persons with disability, leading to serious challenges when it comes to accessing education.The majority of teachers in Belize receive no training in disability or special needs and are unprepared to support children with disabilities in the class
Teachers will be offered; 1) Disability awareness and inclusion in the classroom workshop. 2) A guide to strategies and resources to support inclusion in the classroom 3) Online information and resources platform Leading to reduced discrimination, improved knowledge, skills and access to resources therefore increasing the opportunity for children with disabilities to go to school. Families will be offered a preparation for school workshop and resource pack to support their child's development
Changed perceptions of the abilities of children with disabilities leading to reduced discrimination 50 Schools and 200 teachers in Belize are knowledgeable, skilled and equipped to support children with disabilities to access school and be an active and valued member within the classroom leading to increased numbers of children with disabilities in Belize accessing and remaining within the school system.
