We at The Cecil & Iris Chaudhry Foundation (CICF) strongly believe in the power of education. It is our conviction that education is one of the best defenses against exploitation and oppression. It is this belief that compelled us to establish The Youhanabad Education Center. The Center is providing quality education and coaching to underprivileged children whose families are barely able to survive on a daily basis.
After talking to parents (from lower income segments) in various slum localities and marginalized areas surrounding Youhanabad, Lahore, it was observed that a large number of children have either never been to the school or dropped out of school after reaching grade five, the reason being that the parents, majority of whom belong to extremely low income segments, are unable to afford the costs and other school related expenses.
CICF intends to set up multiple schools/learning centers at different impoverished areas around Lahore; in order to help slum-children continue their education and to provide them proper coaching and mentoring . Our Centers will ensure that the children not only get a good academic foundation but we also focus upon personality development; hence paving the way for their overall success in life. Our first Center has been set up at in the Christian dominated impoverished area of Yohanabad Lahore.
1) Children will play a constructive role in the development of the society. 2) Child Labour will be reduced and discouraged among the lower income segments. 3) Slum Children will influence other slum children to get education. 4) Increase in literacy among the lower segments.
