This project will support the education of 100 Girls from poor families in Mysore India. Rural girls are deprived of basic education. We have several women's self-help groups who are agricultural labourers who want to give their daughters a better start than they had. The cost of quality basic education is high and government schools are not providing such quality. SUMANA has set up a model school in the village of Mellahalli and to support the rural girls, this project is asking for support.
We have identified 100 girls who are willing to go to school but parent face financial constraint, insecurity to go to school in the city. We have provided a low-cost school in the village for the of rural children. This solves the problem of insecurity and this effort is to solve the financial problems preventing these girls from obtaining education. Educating these girls will also solve the problem of child marriage which is imminent if the continue to stay at home.
Provide low cost model education to children in the village so that the girl child will be encouraged to go to the school next door. Irrespective of the low cost of education, many parents are not willing or able to pay the fees because they are not interested in educating the girl child. This project will educate the identified girls and it is intended to continue this effort until the girl completes the 10th standard in education. This will motivate other girls to opt for education.
The quality education provided to these girls will benefit both the girl, the family and the community in the long run. The girl will be saved from child marriage and when 100 girls are saved from child marriage in surrounding villages, they will become model for others who would opt to study. Parents will have no reason to stop their girl children from going to school. With basic education, the children will be supported to engage in skills that would prevent them from economic dependence
