Education of Street Mothers started on July 1st
Thanks to all the generous supporters, the women were able to start the deepening training course in the production of Malagasy handicraft offered by CENAM (Centre de l’artisanat malagasy) on July 1st.
Before the beginning of the course the women signed a contract in which the terms and conditions between them and FFA have been precisely arranged. Among other things, this includes the assumption of costs for the education by FFA, the amount of daily allowances given to the women as well as responsibilities the women are facing such as constant and punctual attendance of the training course. As the project activities are only designed for women who are highly motivated, the contract also demonstrates an important basis for corporate future activities.
The training course is split in three modules which take place on 10 days at a time. The women decided to participate in the training on three days a week each, coming up to a duration of one month per module. In the 1st module the women are taught in the area of basketry with raphia, learning about numerous, so far unknown technics. All the women attend the education with great interest, knowing that it will contribute positively to the quality of their products.
Because the courses take place full-time, the women receive daily allowances for the course days, compensating their loss of earnings and allowing them to participate regularly in the éducation.
The next steps of the first project phase will be the 2nd and 3rd module of the training course, which will also be accomplished during the time of one month each. Subsequently, it is planned to upgrade the sales booth and provide microcredits for purchasing rough material.
The women conceive the project as a unique chance and take part in the current course with great interest. FFA appraises the women as highly reliable and is certain that the project will form a solid basis for an independent and secured future for the women and their families.
Noah foundation, FFA and of course the women themselves hope that the essential funding for all planned activities will be assured. Only then will it be possible for the project to be successful and for the women to reach the desired goal of a better life.
