There are currently 143 students at the Bon Children's Welfare Center, 61 at the nunnery, 6 at the Tibetan Medical College, 2  learning painting and incense preparation and 2 doing woodcraft and electrician training. All the students would not be able to get a good education where they live and that is why their parents or guardians send them to India to be cared for and educated.

The matching funds are only available for a limited time, so be sure to make your donations on October 7 at 12.01 pm ET! All donations are final and up to $1,000 per donor per organization is eligible for matching.

Many Tibetans entrust monasteries with their children's education that is why you will see young children both male and female at monasteries. Some of the girls in the photo are recipients of support from this CHI project.

Just click here and support our program on September 16th at 9am ET.

 Thank you.

Dear Friends,

The Bon Children’s Welfare Center (BCWC) is an integrated community for the care and education of children from the Himalayan regions of Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, Mongolia, and Sikkim. Some of the children are orphans; others are sent by their families for care and education they would not otherwise have. The BCWC is run as a part of the Yungdrung Bon Monastic Center, which is registered with the Government of Himachal Pradesh in Northern India.

We at the BCWC look after the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of these destitute children from the day they arrive. We provide them with a high quality education and instill in them a deep and intimate understanding of the native culture and religion of the Tibetan Bon.

There are more than 230 students being supported by your donations. This includes

-       143 Students at the Bon Children’s Welfare Center

-       61 Students at the Menri Nunnery

-       6 Students at the Tibetan Medical College at Menri

-       2 Students at the Monastery studying painting and incense preparation

-       10 Students at the University Varanasi

-       4 Students at the CST Mussorie taking graduate classes

-       12 Students taking commerce

-       2 Students at Candigarh College studying computers

-       3 Students at Solan studying computers and cooking

Many of these students are receiving top marks in their classes.

This month the students are participating in Losar festivities. Losar (Lo ,meaning year and sar meaning new) will begin on February 19, 2015. This day will not only begin the Tibetan lunar new year, but will initiate the Year of the Wood Sheep. (People born in 1955 or 2015 are Wood Sheep.) There will be two weeks of special rituals and ceremonies marking the beginning of the New Year. In the Bon tradition, the first month of the Tibetan year is considered a holy month and is called Bum-Gyur Da-Wa. During this holy month (in 2015 : February 19 to March 20), all prayers and practices are multiplied 100,000 times.

From the students at the Bon Children’s Welfare Center, we wish you Happy Losar and Tibetan New Year!
