Zambia has over 800,000 girls out of school. Poverty contributes to parents marry off their daughters at 12-14 years. Traditional customs are at variance with statutes (marriage age is at 18 years). Peer pressure and luck of SRHR knowledge lure girls to opt for early marriage. The distance between the schools affects the girls. Project will provided SRHR , financial literacy education and get the girls into school.
Zambia recorded12,500 pregnancies among primary school pupils and 2,428 in secondary schools.a total of 4,492 pupils were readmitted at primary school level while 1,337 secondary school learners were readmitted after delivering,(only 50 per cent). The girls from maternity leave and vulnerables will recieve eduaction support.the teachers and girls in schools will recieve mentorship training to support their peers coming into school.eventually the communities benefit through the empowered girls.
A total 600 girls will be mainstreamed into school in their communities and be provided with school requisite to encourge them to stay in school and complete their high school.the girls will be empowered with SRHR and financial literacy knowledges so that they are able to become financial and sexuality prudent. The project will close the literacy and acces to education gaps that in the long run will enhance better livilihood and mitigate the poverty levels.
The increased access to quality education will deley early pregnancies that contrubute to their failure to complete their educaton.the comprehencive sexuality education will mitigate maternal deaths among the girls and delay their engagement in early sexual activities ,and for those who are sexually active to adopt safer sex methods. The acquired education will enhance their access to economic activities that translates into better livilihood.
