Challenge

The problems among Tribal Community, namely Malayali Tribes, in Kolli Hills of Namakkal District of Tamilnadu, India are complex and are most socio-cultural taboos, high illiteracy, poverty where mostly are coolie workers who migrate more than 6 months a year to nearby states as estate coolies on contract basis resulting, children mostly un-cared and live in unhygienic condition, malnourished, lack of quality educational support by formal schools etc leading to dropouts and early girl marraiges

Solution

The project initially tends address 100 vulnerable girl children in 10 villages, where the girls in adolescent ages are in risk of dropping out from formal schools to get continued education including physiological support, recreation and quality education and also sponsorship for higher studies. The vulnerable family of the girl children will be supported for through various life skill and entrepreneurial skill training and start up seed money to micro enterprises for self sustenance.

Long-Term Impact

The potential long-term impacts are created awareness among Tribal communities on the ill effects of early childhood marriages and also improved girl's education and gender consciousness in the society. The project will also tend to reduce drop-outness of girl children. Other impacts would be reduced maternal and infant mortality, reduced malnutrition, increased self employment opportunity for young/ parent women and also reduced migration. 100 girls will be directly affected by the project.
