Past 3 months had been an exciting time with activities including:

Coffee Session on 22/04/16

Parents brought and shared diferent dishes to the session. It was a time of getting to know one another over dinner as they shared tips and encouraged one another as they journey through with their children.

Pre-SAP outing on 17/05/16

We went to Stadium Tun Fatimah, Melaka for exercise and for a picnic. It was a fun-filled time where our students enjoyed playing at the playground as well as using the exercise equipment provided at the premises. 

Heritage Talk on 28/05/16

The Malaysian Heritage and History Club (MHHC) organised a heritage talk about William G. Shellabear at our premises. Speaker of the event was Rev. David TC Loo who shared about the life of Mr. Shellabear and on how Shellabear Hall was built (ie it currently houses our centre).

Fire Drill on 01/06/16

We had our yearly fire drill exercise with a team of firemen from Balai Bomba Jalan Kubu, Melaka. We had a drill on what to do in case of a fire emergency. Their personnel also demonstrated on proper ways to put out a fire and each of us staff had an opportunity to practice putting out fires with an extinguisher.

Other on-going activities by our YAP include car washing, cafe operations, baking and agriculture activities.

To-date, we have 25 students in EIP, 17 students in Pre-SAP/SAP and 9 trainees in YAP supported by staff of 6 EIP/SAP teachers, 4 YAP trainers, 1 head coach and 1 administrator.

We ushered in a new year’s 2016 with activities including:

CSR by Philea Resort, Melaka on 04/01/16

A team of staff from Philea Resort, Melaka had conducted their CSR by helping us clean our centre before the start of a new school term. We are grateful for their help as it ensures that the students and trainees have a conducive and clean environment when they come back from their holidays.

Chinese New Year with YAP on 05/02/16

We celebrated Chinese New Year with our trainees from Young Adults Programme with a toss of yee sang for blessings and prosperity to usher in the year of the monkey. There were cheers of "Huat ah, huat ah" as we tossed the yee sang and enjoyed our meal together.

Pre-SAP outing to Dataran 1Malaysia, Melaka on 23/02/16

Our students and their parents enjoyed a day out to Dataran 1Malaysia, Melaka to the beach and to water play activities available at the vicinity. It was a fun day as they enjoyed the picnic with the company of their friends and family. 

Dentist visit on 07/03/16 and 08/03/16

A team comprising of a dentist and nurses from Klinik Pergigian Klebang, Melaka visited our centre to give dental checkups and dental health care talks to our students, parents and trainees. They also have hands-on sessions for our students on how to brush their teeth properly.

Centre outing to Zoo Melaka on 15/03/16

Students and trainees from all programmes ie EIP, SAP and YAP went to the zoo during the school term break. It was an enjoyable day together with tram rides, walk along the mini safari as well as watching the bird show and elephant feeding session. 

Parents Support Group on 19/03/16

Our invited speaker was Madam Teo Lee Fun, an occupational therapist from Teo Therapeutic Centre, Petaling Jaya. She shared on the topic "Enhancing Postural Control for Daily Performance" which includes sharing on how postural stability and core strength can affect our daily living performances as well as the importance of taking care of our backs and the how to-s. The participants were shown the types of activites and exercises they can do for their child and for themselves to help improve their postures and core strength. 

Student volunteers from Melaka Girls Secondary School (MGSS) on 22/03/16 and 24/03/16

A group of students from MGSS volunteered in the centre in conjunction to one of their subject topics in civic studies. They decorated our centre's notice and bulletin boards with their creative crafts as well as helped clean our centre.

On-going activities by YAP include operation of their cafe for lunch, car wash, cleaning and agriculture activities. We currently have 21 students in EIP, 6 students in Pre-SAP, 11 students in SAP and 9 trainees in YAP, supported by a team of 6 teachers in EIP/Pre-SAP/SAP, 3 trainers in YAP, 1 administrator and 1 centre manager.

We have summed up the year 2015 with the following activities for the past 3 months:

Parents Support Group on 17th October 2015

The speaker for the event was Mdm Jac Ang, a parent of a young adult son with autism. She shared about her journey with her son and shared tips with parents on strategies she used to teach and manage her son ie visual strategies and schedules. It was an encouraging and hands-on session as she shared about her son's progress throughout the years.

Graduation & Christmas Party 2015 on 30th November 2015

The event was sponsored by Hatten Hotel Melaka. A total of 11 students graduated ie 10 from EIP and 1 from SAP.  The graduation event is to officially recognise their participation in the respective programmes. Our advisor, Mrs Yammy Ang presented the graduation certificates and gifts to the graduating students.

It was a fun family time together as parents, teachers and board of management members fellowshipped over dinner and it was a joy to watch our students and trainees perform a fashion show, dance performances and a drama sketch during the event. There was also a Christmas gift exchange event as children and young adults exchange Christmas gifts with each other.  

Inventory & Stock takes from 1st to 7th December 2015

The EIP/SAP teaching team cleaned the Toy & Resource Library and took inventory/stock takes of existing and new materials for both the library and teaching aids.

Christmas Gift Event by Philea Resort, Melaka on 22nd December 2015

Philea Resort, Melaka organised and hosted our students and their parents to a memorable Christmas gift giving event (all gifts and dinner are sponsored by the resort). Our students had earlier on written their wish list and placed them on a Christmas tree- and the resort then blessed them with the gifts. It was an enjoyable time for both families and staff of the resort as they spent time together in the evening.

We ended our year by supporting 31 students in EIP, 10 students in SAP and 9 trainees in YAP with a staff of 6 teachers in EIP & SAP, 5 trainers in YAP and 1 centre manager.

Interesting activities that were conducted for past 3 months include:

Parents Support Group on 25th July 2015

The speaker for the event was Mr Lee Chee Gaip, one of our board members. He shared about “CHOICE” whereby parents could focus on these key areas while helping their child ie Cost, Help, Objective, Implement and Encourage. It was a motivational session with parents as he also shared on pointers in managing their child as well as in their daily routines.

YAP outing on 28th August 2015

Our trainees and trainers had a wonderful time playing badminton at the Tengkera Badminton Court, Melaka. It was a time of bonding as peers taught each other how to play the game as well as playing the game together.

Coffee Session on 04th September 2015

Speaker to the event was Ms May Liu, a Clinical Psychologist from Mahkota Medical Centre, Melaka. She shared on the topic “Parenting Children with Special Needs” whereby she guided parents with the know-hows and tools in understanding and helping their child in their development.

On-going activities by our YAP include car washing, cafe operation, agricultural and cleaning services. 

As to-date, we are supporting 31 students in EIP, 10 students in SAP and 9 trainees in YAP with a staff of 6 teachers in EIP & SAP, 5 trainers in YAP and 1 centre manager.

Interesting activities that were conducted for past 3 months include:

Parents from all programmes came together and shared about their journey with their children. It was a time of valuable discussion whereby they traded tips and information on how and what they can do to help and manage their children.

Parents Support Group on 16th May 2015

The speaker to the event was our advisor, Mrs Yammy Ang. She shared with us about her journey with her son and encouraged parents to never give up, but to strive ahead for what is best for their children.

YAP Slumber Party on 29th May 2015

Our trainees started the evening with a pot bless dinner and activities with their parents before spending the night in Wings together with their trainers. It was a fun-filled time as they are able to spend time to fellowship with one another.

Visit from the dentist on 25th & 26th June 2015

A group comprising of a dentist and 3 nurses from Klinik Pergigian Klebang Besar visited us and gave dental checkups to our students and trainees. They also gave briefings on how to brush our teeth as well as ways to take care of our teeth properly. The sessions gave us a clearly understanding about the importance of our dental health care.

YAP outing on 26th June 2015

The young adult trainees and their trainers went for a group outing around Melaka with stops at Mahkota Parade and Dataran Pahlawan. The trainees were excited to be able to spend their day out together with their friends.

 

The programmes are supported by a with staff force of 6 teachers in EIP & SAP, 4 trainers in YAP and 1 centre manager, supporting 24 students in EIP, 9 students in SAP and 10 trainees in YAP.
